Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 1, 2026
Spacie ("we," "our," or "us") is a voice-to-text application for macOS that converts your speech into formatted text. This Privacy Policy explains what data Spacie collects, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.
We built Spacie with a privacy-first architecture. The core functionality — recording your voice, transcribing it with Whisper, and formatting it with a local LLM — runs entirely on your Mac. No audio ever leaves your device.
Data That Stays on Your Device
The following data is processed and stored exclusively on your Mac. We never have access to it, and it is never transmitted to any server:
- Audio recordings — All microphone input is captured locally, processed by the on-device Whisper model, and discarded after transcription. Recordings are never saved to disk or transmitted.
- Transcription text — The raw text output from Whisper stays on your machine. We cannot see, access, or recover your transcribed content.
- LLM formatting — When you use format templates, a local language model processes your text on-device. No content is sent to external AI services.
Data We Collect
When you create a Spacie account (optional — the app works without one), we collect the following:
- Email address and display name — Provided through Sign in with Apple. Used for account identification and communication about your account.
- Daily usage counts — The number of transcriptions you perform each day. This is a simple count used to enforce free-tier limits. We do not collect the content of your transcriptions.
- Custom format templates — If you enable sync, your format templates are stored in the cloud so they are available across devices. This includes the template name, prompt text, and configuration — not the content you process with them.
- Stripe customer ID and subscription status — If you subscribe to Spacie Pro, we store a reference to your Stripe customer record and your current subscription status. Payment details (card numbers, billing address) are handled entirely by Stripe and are never stored on our servers.
Data We Do Not Collect
To be explicit, Spacie does not collect:
- Audio recordings or microphone data
- Transcription text or content
- Keystrokes or screen content
- Browsing history or activity in other applications
- Location data
- Contacts, calendar, or files on your device
Third-Party Services
Spacie uses the following third-party services:
- Firebase (Google Cloud) — Authentication (Sign in with Apple), Firestore database for account data and synced templates. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Stripe — Payment processing for Spacie Pro subscriptions. Subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy.
Data Storage & Security
Account data is stored in Firebase (Google Cloud) infrastructure. All data is encrypted at rest using AES-256 and encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3. Access to production databases is restricted to essential personnel with multi-factor authentication.
Data Retention
Your account data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data — including your email, usage counts, synced templates, and subscription records — will be permanently deleted from our servers within 30 days.
You can request account deletion at any time by emailing support@spacie.com.
Children's Privacy
Spacie is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email (using the address associated with your account) at least 14 days before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
